Grid Smarter Cities, headquartered at Newcastle Helix, has received a £2m investment from TIG Corporate Finance to support a project aimed at reducing congestion in London. The company’s Kerb platform enables electric van drivers to reserve parking slots for up to 90 minutes, 24/7, thus minimizing idling.
This investment will aid Grid Smarter Cities in implementing a trial project with Westminster Council. The trial involves deploying the Kerb parking bay management system at two locations in the City of Westminster. The initiative, led by Coun Paul Dimoldenberg, seeks innovative solutions for managing loading bays, particularly for electric vehicles.
Through the Kerb platform, electric van drivers can book parking slots, reducing idling time and facilitating smoother deliveries. The system includes an app, online interface, and on-street e-sign, allowing distribution companies to plan deliveries efficiently.
Coun Dimoldenberg emphasized the importance of managing kerbside space efficiently to keep the city moving and reduce congestion. Neil Herron, CEO of Grid Smarter Cities, expressed excitement about the trial and the recent investment, highlighting the company’s commitment to innovative urban solutions.
The investment deal was facilitated by Square One Law and RMT Accountants, providing legal and tax advice, respectively.
