Renowned for its signature square burgers, American fast-food chain Wendy’s is embarking on an extensive expansion across the UK, a move expected to create approximately 400 job openings.
Having returned to the UK market in 2021 after a hiatus of two decades, Wendy’s has already established over 30 restaurants nationwide. Last year saw the unveiling of new outlets in Derby, Guildford, Chelmsford, and Bilton.
The expansion continues with the imminent opening of a Wendy’s venue in Middlesbrough in the forthcoming months, followed by another franchisee-operated restaurant launch in Newcastle later this year.
In Yorkshire, Wendy’s is slated to inaugurate its second Sheffield location on Arena Road, building on the success of its debut in the city in 2022. Additionally, a second Wendy’s site was recently introduced in Hull.
Merseyside will welcome its inaugural physical Wendy’s establishment this year, building upon the triumph of the brand’s delivery kitchen at Gravity Max in Liverpool city center.
London is not exempt from Wendy’s expansion plans, with GH Burgers, the brand’s newest franchisee, preparing to debut its initial restaurant in Wood Green later this year. Concurrently, Wendy’s is poised to open outlets in Cambridge and Southend-on-Sea, while Colchester is on track to host its second Wendy’s venue soon.
Recruitment for the upcoming restaurants has already commenced. Michael Clarke, the UK managing director for The Wendy’s Company, expressed enthusiasm about the company’s growing popularity in the UK, citing the increasing demand and anticipation for Wendy’s among British consumers. Clarke emphasized Wendy’s commitment to providing fresh, high-quality food to discerning customers across the country.
