The skies above El Alamein were alive with the roar of jet engines and the dazzling maneuvers of fighter jets as the Egypt International Aviation and Space Exhibition 2024 kicked off with breathtaking aerial displays. This inaugural event, held at the El Alamein International Airport, marks a significant milestone for Egypt and the broader aviation and space industries. Developed since 2010, the Kaan is poised to replace the aging fleet of F-16 fighters in the Turkish Airforce and potentially, in other allied nations’ arsenals.
Mehmet Demiroğlu, CEO of Turkish Aerospace, emphasized the importance of this exhibition for forging new partnerships. “It is crucial for us to find opportunities to collaborate, not only with the Egyptian Air Force but also with other nations that might benefit from our technologies,” he stated. The Kaan, with its impressive top speed of 1.8 Mach and a service ceiling of 17,000 meters, is designed to dominate the skies with a versatile arsenal that includes air-to-air and surface missiles, as well as a significant bomb payload.

The exhibition attracted delegations from across the globe, including high-profile attendees such as Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and representatives from Russia, China, and the UAE. The presence of these international delegations underscores the event’s importance as a hub for discussing and securing aerospace deals and defense collaborations.
Inside the bustling exhibition halls, companies from various countries displayed models and prototypes of their latest innovations in missiles, rockets, drones, and quadcopters. The UAE’s EDGE group, known for its expertise in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), showcased its Garmoosha drone. This light unmanned drone can carry a 100kg payload with an endurance of six hours and a range of 150km, highlighting the rapid advancements in UAV technology that are reshaping modern warfare and surveillance.
