People and Time: The Art of Ivan Loginov and Academic Realism Today

This autumn, the State Complex Palace of Congresses — the official residence of the President of the Russian Federation — proudly presents People and Time, a solo exhibition by acclaimed academic realist Ivan Loginov.

A graduate of the prestigious Russian Academy of Arts, Loginov is recognized as one of the foremost representatives of contemporary academic realism. His works seamlessly combine the precision and rigor of classical training with the emotional intensity and psychological depth of modern sensibility.

Loginov’s paintings are part of the collections of the State Russian Museum, the Peterhof Museum, and numerous private collections across Europe, the United States, and China. In 2020, he created a portrait for the cover of TIMEmagazine — an honor that placed him among the very few Russian artists ever featured on its front page.

Set within the majestic Konstantinovsky Palace, the exhibition reveals the full scope of Loginov’s creative vision — from grand historical compositions to delicate graphic portraits and intimate studies.

Portraiture remains central to Loginov’s artistic practice, showcasing his mastery of composition, light, and emotion. The exhibition features key works in oil as well as his signature technique, the so-called “Russian sauce”, known for its velvety matte surface and subtle tonal harmony.
At the core of the exhibition stands Tocsin (Nabat) — a monumental meditation on the themes of awakening and uprising, representing the culmination of years of artistic exploration. The making of this major work was documented by Noir Films in the award-winning film Monologue.

Today, Ivan Loginov continues his work on a ceremonial portrait commissioned for the Palace’s permanent collection — a new milestone in the career of one of Russia’s leading academic painters of the twenty-first century.
