Myanmar is grappling with a monumental disaster after a powerful earthquake struck the region, claiming over 1,600 lives and leaving thousands more injured or trapped in the rubble. Authorities have warned that the death toll is likely to climb in the coming days as rescue efforts continue across the affected areas.
The earthquake, which hit without much warning, caused widespread damage, flattening entire communities and severing transportation routes, making it difficult for emergency teams to reach remote locations. Aftershocks continue to pose a significant risk, hampering search and rescue operations and complicating the already challenging recovery efforts.
