EasyJet made a significant announcement this morning (Tuesday, April 16) confirming the cancellation of all flights to Israel for the remainder of the summer season. Citing the escalating tensions between Israel and Iran as the primary reason, the airline extended its previous cancellation period from April 21 to October 27. This decision affects flights to Tel Aviv, the Israeli capital, from London airports Gatwick and Luton.
A spokesperson for the airline explained the rationale behind the decision, stating, “As a result of the continued evolving situation in Israel, easyJet has now taken the decision to suspend its flights to Tel Aviv for the remainder of the summer season.” They further assured that customers with existing bookings on this route would be provided with various options, including a full refund.
In parallel, other airlines such as Lufthansa and KLM have also taken similar actions. Lufthansa has cancelled flights to Beirut and Tehran until April 18, while KLM has suspended all flights to Tel Aviv. These decisions come in the aftermath of Israel’s recent military action against Palestinians in Gaza. 
The Foreign Office has issued travel advisories cautioning against travel to certain areas in Israel and the Palestinian Territories. Specifically, travel to the Gaza Strip, surrounding areas, the West Bank, and the Israeli borders with Lebanon and Syria is strongly discouraged. For the rest of Israel, travel is advised only if absolutely necessary.
Amidst these developments, Britain has joined the US and other allies in responding to Iranian attack drones. As tensions remain high, both nations have urged for calm in the region while Israel deliberates on its response. Recent events include Israel’s purported attack on Iran’s consulate in Damascus, Syria, followed by Iran’s retaliation with drone and missile strikes towards Israel.
