WPP, the world’s largest advertising group, announced that Chief Operating Officer Andrew Scott will retire at the end of this year after more than three decades with the company.
Scott, who has held several senior leadership roles since joining WPP in the early 1990s, has been COO since 2018. He played a key role in the group’s restructuring efforts, including simplifying its agency structure and supporting acquisitions aimed at strengthening WPP’s digital and data capabilities.
In a statement, WPP said Scott would remain in his role until his departure to ensure a smooth transition. The company did not immediately name a successor but indicated that succession planning is underway.
Chief Executive Mark Read praised Scott’s contributions, highlighting his role in guiding the business through a period of significant change in the advertising industry. “Andrew’s leadership, experience, and commitment have been invaluable to WPP’s transformation,” Read said.
Scott’s retirement comes as WPP continues to navigate shifting client demands, technological disruption, and heightened competition from both traditional rivals and digital platforms. Analysts say the company’s ability to adapt will be a key test for its next generation of leaders.
