Police are looking into reports of “dangerous” bone marrow injections being offered to children with autism as experimental procedures. The Royal Borough of Greenwich issued a caution to schools and nurseries after learning that an individual claiming to be a doctor intends to visit the UK to administer the treatment.
According to the London council, the proposed procedure involves injecting bone marrow and spinal fluid into the brain, posing a significant risk to life. The Metropolitan Police are investigating a reported fraud related to the provision of medical services.
A spokesperson for the Royal Borough of Greenwich emphasized the importance of safeguarding children and young people. They stated that the council was alerted to concerns about the individual’s plans and promptly warned local educational institutions. 
The spokesperson advised against engaging with the individual and urged anyone approached by them to contact Greenwich LADO immediately. Additionally, caregivers of children with autism were encouraged to seek support through the local offer available in Greenwich.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed ongoing inquiries to identify the individuals behind the advertisements and their location. They reassured the public that there is no evidence of anyone in the UK having received such treatment and that collaboration with local authorities and NHS partners is underway.
